Why I Do This Work
from information to impact
As my career evolved, I moved into nonprofit, humanitarian, and mission-driven communications. Through roles with organizations including the International Rescue Committee, Human Rights Watch, TechnoServe, and Komera, I developed experience communicating complex issues ranging from refugee resettlement and global development to education, health, and community empowerment.
These experiences taught me how to translate complicated ideas into clear, accessible communication without losing the nuance, dignity, or humanity behind the work.
A Foundation in Journalism and storytelling
My career began in journalism and media, where I learned how to ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and uncover the stories that matter most. Early experiences at PBS and the Council on Foreign Relations introduced me to the power of strategic communication and reinforced a lesson that continues to guide my work today: people connect with stories before they connect with statistics.

building trust through communication
Over the years, I've supported organizations through content strategy, digital storytelling, social media, video production, fundraising communications, newsletters, websites, and impact reporting.
While the tools and platforms have changed, the goal has remained remarkably consistent: helping organizations build trust, strengthen relationships, and communicate their impact more effectively.
why thompson davis consulting exists
I founded Thompson Davis Consulting to help mission-driven organizations communicate with greater clarity, consistency, and purpose.
Many organizations are doing extraordinary work but struggle to communicate it consistently across platforms, campaigns, and audiences. My role is to help bridge that gap by combining strategic thinking, storytelling, and practical communications support.
Whether I'm helping an organization refine its messaging, launch a campaign, develop a publication, or preserve community stories, my focus remains the same: helping meaningful work receive the visibility, understanding, and support it deserves.
the future of my work
Increasingly, I'm interested in helping organizations preserve and share the stories that define their communities, impact, and history. Through strategic storytelling systems, publications, and community story archives, I hope to help mission-driven organizations strengthen donor relationships, celebrate their communities, and preserve their legacy for future generations.
